The Samuel H. Kress Foundation AAMC Affiliated Fellowship, launched in 2014, honors exceptional curatorial vision and helps curators advance deserving projects that require research in Italy. Awarded projects need not be Rome specific. Applications for the 2017-18 Fellowship are now open to AAMC members, and are due by January 9, 2017.
Since its founding, the program has hosted the following distinguished Fellows: 2014-2015 Affiliated Fellow Dr. Hilliard Todd Goldfarb, Associate Chief Curator and Curator of Old Masters, The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, to further his research on Faith, Death and Eternal Life in the Art of Poussin (working title); 2015-2016 Affiliated Fellow Judith Mann, Curator, European Art to 1800 at the Saint Louis Art Museum to further her research for Painting on Stone, 1520-1800; 2016-2017 Affiliated Fellow Andaleeb Badiee Banta, Curator of European and American Art, Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College to further her work on Old Master Drawings @ Oberlin: The Italian Drawings.
The Affiliated Fellowship is a four-week appointment at the AAR, which includes housing in a single room; six lunches and five dinners a week and access to residence hall kitchens; $1,500 in airfare; and a $2,000 stipend. Affiliated Fellows have access to all the AAR facilities (including 24-hour a day, seven days a week access to the library) and all activities that occur at the Academy, such as concerts, exhibitions, conferences, lectures, and tours. Due to space limitations the AAR is unable to accommodate the spouses/partners or children of Affiliated Fellows. If desired, the Affiliated Fellow may schedule a talk about his or her project at the AAR during the Fellowship period.

The AAMC and AAMC Foundation are grateful for the funding support provided by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation for this Fellowship, and are thankful to have partners, such as the Samuel H. Kress Foundation and American Academy in Rome, that share our mission.
