The current proposed 2018 federal budget calls to eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
On January 20, 2017, the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) and AAMC Foundation released the statement that we strongly support the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Together the NEA and NEH provide critical support to over 2,000 organizations throughout the entire United States, making possible invaluable programming, exhibitions, performances and more within our communities. The NEA and NEH strengthen our country through bringing history and creative excellence to all Americans. We condemn any actions to dismantle or decrease funding of these programs.
AAMC & AAMC Foundation will continue to advocate for these organizations, and recently attended The American Alliance for Museums (AAM) coordinated Museum Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. We encourage our members and friends to reach out now to their congressional representatives to voice their support of these organizations and to carefully follow any actions against the NEA and NEH. One such outlet to voice your opinion to your representatives is through sending letters via the Americans for the Arts Action Fund forms, accessible at https://www.votervoice.net/ARTSUSA/Campaigns/47344/Respond
