AAMC Foundation is accepting applications for its 2018 Travel Grant Fellowships, supporting travel to AAMC & AAMC Foundation’s Annual Conference & Meeting, May 5-8, in Montréal. The organization is honored this year to be offering more opportunities for support to attend. The Annual Conference the organizations largest singular program and first one outside the United States, anticipates an estimated 400+ curators in attendance, and will encompass nearly 20 local venues in Montréal.

As attendance at the Conference welcomes members that work in many fields and types of institutions, located throughout the globe, the ability to connect outside of one’s circle is an uncommon and energizing opportunity for a curator.  However, it is not just the connections made but also the sites visited that will have a positive impact on attendees as we will have the opportunity to visit varied examples of art organizations in Montréal.  In addition, the Conference sessions, dialogues, and RoundTables will provide engaging content that will advance conversations in the field.

Unfortunately, many young and beginning curators, due to no or extremely limited access to professional development funding or travel allowances through their institutions, cannot afford to attend without support. In general, it has been AAMC’s experience that curators, at all levels, are often in need of travel support Therefore, in 2006, the AAMC established a Travel Grant Program, which enables junior curators and curators with no or little funds allocated for professional development travel to attend the AAMC Annual Conference. Since 2010 alone, over 180 individual Travel Grant Fellowships have been awarded. Past supporters have included the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, Henry Luce Foundation, and Terra Foundation for American Art.

This year, the Foundation is welcoming applications for:

  • Travel Grant Fellowship in American Art. Funding generously provided by the Henry Luce Foundation.
  • Travel Grant Fellowship for Junior Curators. Funding generously provided by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation.
  • Travel Grant Fellowship for Alumni of the Getty's Multicultural Undergraduate Internship Program, Weekend Tours Included. Funding generously provided by the Getty Foundation.
  • Travel Grant Fellowship for Alumni of the Getty's Multicultural Undergraduate Internship Program, Weekend Tours Not Included. Funding generously provided by the Getty Foundation.
