About the 2011 Conference & 10th Anniversary Celebration
On May 15-17, 2011, the Association of Art Museum Curators held its annual conference in New York in three different museums (The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and El Museo del Barrio). Over 450 curators and invited guests were in attendance. The conference also marked the tenth anniversary of the organization.
Special highlights from the conference and anniversary celebration included the presentation of the first "Philippe de Montebello Award for Distinguished Service" presented to Mr. de Montebello for his dedication to curators and crucial support in helping to found the organization in 2001; a keynote panel entitled, "Looking Forward 10 Years: What is the Museum of 2021?" featuring Paola Antonelli, Linda Shearer, and Anthony Appiah; and additional panels addressing innovations in conservation, cultural property, curatorial collaborations, publishing in the digital age; and a special workshop targeting the best strategies for developing a good individual donor base of support.
