SUBMIT A SESSION PROPOSAL

 2018 ANNUAL CONFERENCE & MEETING

May 5 - 8, 2018

MONTREAL CANADA

 


 

AAMC members are invited to submit session proposals for the AAMC & AAMC Foundation 2018 Annual Conference & Meeting.  Deadline is July 25, 2017.

 

  • We are seeking proposals focusing on collaboration, cooperation, engagement, and interpretation, which will build upon and continue our discussions of inclusion and access begun at our 2017 Conference.


  • Proposals should address topics pertinent to the range of fields, organizations, career stages, and overall breath of the curatorial profession and arts community.   


  • As with all AAMC & AAMC Foundation programming and overall efforts, proposals should strive to be representative of diversity across self-identifications (by nation, gender, creed, race), fields of expertise, types of institutional mission, and regional position, and of participants. 

 

  • In addition, proposals should support a discussion format of presentation that engages the audience in a dialogue.

 

  • All proposals are due no later than 12pm ET, Thursday, July 25, 2017, no exceptions will be granted.

 



Proposal Process

The Conference Committee and the Executive Director oversee the selection process with the final decisions made and approved by the Executive Committee, in coordination with our Inclusion and Access Task Force and Advocacy Task Force leadership. The selection process will be guided by the strength of the proposals and the need to create a balance between topics relevant to curators from a wide range of institutions and specializations. Conference proposals are subject to modification by AAMC (staff, leadership, etc) as part of the process of shaping the overall Conference program. 

 


 

Submission Application

All session proposals are submitted online only via the form at the bottom of this page. Proposals should support a discussion model of presentation utilizing case studies and open dialogue rather than presenting a formal papers.  

Prospective moderators must attach the following with their online submission form:

  • 500-word session proposal, including title, thesis, goal and discussion points.
  • Suggestions for three to four panelists/presenters, please have a proposal with suggested speakers outlined, but do not confirm them in advance as we will work together to ensure an inclusive presentation of speakers.  A short bio and/or a statement as to why the panelists/presenters are recommended. Proposals without the full name, title, and organization of at least 3-4 panelists will not be considered.
  • Panelists/presenters do not have to be AAMC members.  However, they should be well respected in their field and present information that is relevant to the panel topic.  We encourage panelists that represent diversity of field, institution type and size, race, gender identity, and ethnicity.
  • Short (100 words or less bios) for yourself and that of your co-moderator (if applicable).

 


 

Additional Information and Regulations

  • AAMC reserves the right to make recommendations for panelists and/or adjustments to the direction of the panel.  All recommendations are made with the purpose of strengthen the Conference program, be inclusive in views, and align with AAMC's mission. 
  • Proposals should be developed with consideration to AAMC's policy that all of our programming and overall efforts shall strive to be representative of diversity: across self-identifications (by nation, gender, creed, race), fields of expertise, types of institutional mission, and regional position, of participants. The more diverse our voices, the more dynamic our offerings. 
  • All sessions are in a discussion format, so please keep this in mind. These are not lectures.
  • Once approved, the session organizer is responsible for asking the panelists/presenters and securing their involvement, with assistance from, if necessary, and under the guidance of, AAMC. 
  • Moderators/organizers are responsible for also securing the necessary information from their session, including relevant bios, titles, presentations, and other relevant information within AAMC’s deadlines and guidelines.
  • The order (date & time) of sessions is at the sole discretion of the AAMC, but will likely be either on Monday or Tuesday of the Conference.
  • AAMC offers participants one complimentary night hotel in our room block, but no further assistance in travel or additional accommodations.
  • If planning to attend any part of the Conference outside of the day presenting, Conference registration is required.  

 


 

Timeline

Proposals Due no later than 12pm ET on Thursday, July 25, 2017

Successful Proposals Notified: before or by September 5, 2017

All Panels/Workshops Finalized, including panelists confirmed: October 30, 2017

AAMC & AAMC Foundation Annual Conference & Meeting: May 5 - 8, 2018
