Building upon previous years, this panel will address publishing from three different viewpoints: 1) an established book publisher with a dedication to the printed book 2) a museum administrator who is charged with overseeing online and multimedia publishing for the museum and 3) a creative studio head working from outside the walls of the museum to develop cutting-edge online strategies and use open source software to publish to reach new audiences

About the Panelists
Rui Guerra is co-founder of INTK, a creative
studio specialized in developing online strategies for cultural organizations.
In collaboration with organizations such as V2_, the Institute for the
Unstable Media and LABoral, Art and Industrial Creation Centre, INTK has
developed comprehensive online strategies covering aspects in terms of content,
context, business models, identity, interaction, communities and open source
software. Besides working commercially, INTK develops artistic projects that
explore the intersection of art, technology and society. Rui teaches at the
Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and his views on online strategies have been
expounded at several conferences, most recently at Media Libraries and Archives
for the 21st Century (Spain), Public Interfaces (Denmark) and Digital
Strategies for Heritage (the Netherlands).
Nik Honeysett is Head of
Administration for the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, California,
overseeing personnel and administrative services across the Getty’s two sites,
in Brentwood and Malibu. Prior to his current role, he managed the Getty's Web
Group, responsible for all aspects of their main website and intranets. Before
moving to Los Angeles in 2000, he spent 12 years at Cogapp, a UK-based
consultancy specializing in the publication of interactive and online
multimedia for the cultural sector in Europe and the USA. He is a former chair
of the American Association of Museum’s Media and Technology Standing
Professional Committee; a former chair of AAM’s Standing Professional Committee
Council and currently sits on AAM’s Board of Directors. His hobbies include
writing short summary paragraphs about his career and referring to himself in
the third person.
Max Marmor is President of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. An art historian and art librarian by training, his scholarly interests lie mainly in the field of Leonardo da Vinci studies and the historiography of art. He is co-editor of the standard reference work, Guide to the Literature of Art History (2005) and author of numerous articles, translations and book reviews. His most recent publications include articles on the influence of the poet Dante on Leonardo da Vinci and Sandro Botticelli.
Mr. Marmor began his career in the 1980s as curator of special collections at the UCLA Art Library. Mr. Marmor has also been professionally affiliated with Avery Library at Columbia University, the NYU Institute of Fine Arts Library, and the Yale Arts Library, of which he was the director for several years. He left Yale in 2001 to assume a new position at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, as part of the planning team for the ARTstor digital initiative. He was appointed President of the Kress Foundation in July 2007.
Ed Marquand is owner and Creative Director of Marquand Books. Marquand and his staff of designers, editors, and production professionals produce exhibition catalogues, collection books, monographs, catalogues raisonné, and other publications. He and his staff have worked for over 150 museums domestically and internationally. Their books have won numerous design honors, as well as George Wittenborn and PROSE awards. Marquand is also developing Tieton, a small orchard town in central Washington state as an incubator for artisan businesses. There he has a letterpress shop and bindery for making handmade art books for his clients. Later this year, he will announce the development of a small, alternative book fulfillment and distribution enterprise also based in Tieton.
