Description

Moving beyond traditional gallery texts, this webinar addresses new interpretive methods with close attention to the roles that language and technology play. Speakers from institutions in Asia, Europe and the US will outline the multi-sensory strategies their own exhibition teams have used to enhance installations, activate works of art, and facilitate deeper connections for visitors. The panel will also explore the broader challenges and opportunities inherent in interpreting for diverse, international audiences.

Jeanne Goswami, Independent Interpretation Consultant

Jeanne Normand Goswami is an independent consultant based in Salem, Massachusetts. She has held interpretation, editorial, and curatorial positions at the Peabody Essex Museum, New Museum, and Harvard Art Museums. Jeanne currently serves on the Communications Committee of the Association for Art Museum Interpretation.

Jovanna Scorsone, Education and Public Engagement Manager, Aga Khan Museum

Jovanna Scorsone is the Education and Public Engagement Manager at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto and is responsible for the delivery of dynamic, community-building programs for diverse audiences. She is a committed advocate for the creation of meaningful, accessible, and inclusive learning experiences, helping people to understand the world and each other. She holds a Masters in Museum Studies from University College London, and a Masters in Egyptology from the University of Toronto. Her work in museum learning and interpretation has spanned museums in Canada, Syria, Korea, and the UK.

 

Cherry Thian, Senior Manager, Audience Department, Asian Civilisations Museum

For the past 10 years, Cherry’s passion has been using design to create meaningful experiences for museum visitors of different ages and abilities. She was recently appointed to head an access team that focuses on normalizing disabilities through programs, capability development, research, and innovation. She has conceptualized multiple interactive media projects since 2010, including a location-based gaming AR app in 2011, interactive projection, content delivery system, and most recently, assistive technology. 

 

Katy Wan, Assistant Curator, Tate Modern; Moderator

Katy has been Assistant Curator at Tate Modern since 2015 where she contributes towards the research and realization of major exhibitions, acquisitions and displays. She has co-organized international touring shows of work by Mona Hatoum, Wifredo Lam, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, and Natalia Goncharova, as well as the 2018 display 'Magic Realism: Art in Weimar Germany 1919—33’. She is currently co-curating with Andrea Lissoni and Nicholas Serota a major Bruce Nauman survey exhibition. Beyond Tate, she is currently undertaking research into Alexey Brodovitch, who for a quarter of a century was art director of US Harper’s Bazaar.
