Association of Art Museum Curators Foundation Travel Grant Fellowships

The AAMC Foundation is pleased to offer Travel Grant Fellowships to its Annual Conference & Meeting. Each year, applications are accepted for Fellowships in American Art and for Junior Curators. Please note that each Fellowship has a separate application, and applicants may only apply for one Fellowship.

Applications for both 2017 Travel Grant Fellowships are now closed. We look forward to being in touch with applicants regarding the status of their application in early April.

ELIGIBILITY
Applications are open to AAMC members. Curators who work in museums with no funds for professional development travel are encouraged. Multiple applications from one museum are accepted for each Fellowship. Members may only apply for one Fellowship.

  • Travel Grant Fellowships in American Art
Applications are open to curators who work in American Art pre-1950 at the Associate Curator level and above, and who are directly affiliated with an institution.

  • Travel Grant Fellowships for Junior Curators
Applications are open to junior curators with less than ten years of experience.

FUNDING REQUIREMENTS
  • Funds awarded are required to be used towards travel and accommodations to attend the AAMC & AAMC Foundation Annual Conference & Meeting in New York City, May 6-9, 2017. Awardees will be notified in April of 2017 with grant distributions sent upon acceptance of award.

  • Grant awards may not cover the full expenses of travel, and are not expected to exceed $1,000 in total, and may be closer to $600 - $800 per person. In the event that we receive more qualified applications than we are able to award, first preference will be for curators who have never received travel funding from the AAMC.

  • Conference early bird registration should be included in your expenses. Registration fees for Saturday and Sunday tours may also be included in your expenses, should you wish to register for them.

  • In addition to travel and accommodation expenses, an AAMC Foundation Travel Grant may cover per diem expenses up to $50 per day. When planning your budget, keep in mind that on the Monday and Tuesday of the Conference, breakfast and lunch are provided and there are evening receptions on Saturday, Sunday and Monday
  • All fellowship awardees must submit a one-page report to the AAMC Foundation by June 1, 2017 summarizing the benefits of attending the Conference and its relevance in helping to advance your professional development; itemized funding report, including receipts; and a thank you letter acknowledging the importance of the support. This is a firm deadline.
  • You are required to inform the Foundation of any other funds that you receive for the same purpose. AAMC Foundation Travel Grants are non transferable and must be used as awarded. If you are unable to attend the Conference, you are required to return all funds received within 30 days of cancellation.
