Prometheus’ Gift: AI and the Evolution of Curatorial Practice


This workshop explores the growing potential of AI to revolutionize curatorial practices, from enhancing collections analysis to generating creative exhibition ideas. Through live demonstrations with ChatGPT, participants will experience how AI can streamline curatorial work and inspire new approaches to interpretation and engagement. Attendees will receive practical insights into how to begin using large language models (LLMs) and AI in their everyday tasks, as well as participate in an interactive ideation session to brainstorm exhibition topics and themes.

Nik Honeysett, Chief Executive Officer, Balboa Park Online Collaborative

Nik is CEO of the Balboa Park Online Collaborative (www.bpoc.org), a San Diego-based non-profit consultancy that provides support, development, and strategy for museums and cultural institutions. Previously, he was Head of Administration for the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, California, overseeing budget, personnel, operational and administrative services across the Getty’s two sites in Brentwood and Malibu. Prior to this role, he led the Getty's Web Group, responsible for all aspects of their main website, intranets and web development activities. Before moving to Los Angeles in 2000, he spent 12 years at Cogapp (www.cogapp.com), a UK-based consultancy specializing in the publication of interactive and online multimedia for the cultural sector in Europe and the USA. He was Co-Principle Investigator for the 2015 and 2016 editions of the New Media Consortium’s Horizon Report: Museum Edition. He is a former board member of the American Alliance of Museums, the Museum Computer Network, and the current Board Chair of the Institute for Learning Innovation. He is a frequent speaker on a range of technical, business, digital, and strategy opportunities and challenges facing the cultural sector.
