Engagement Program for International and U.S. Curators

Announces Applications

November 19, 2020, NEW YORK, NY — The AAMC Foundation Engagement Program for International Curators (EPIC) opens applications on Saturday, November 21, 2020.  The program, taking place over ten months, seeks to bring together international and U.S.-based curators creating an open dialogue that expands their experiences and fosters ally ships.

This iteration of the AAMC Foundation’s EPIC program centers on curators around the globe having worked or currently working within collections, exhibitions and/or currently with projects in development that explore historical art of the United States (c. 1500-1980), including Native American Art and U.S. Latinx Art, as well as painting; sculpture; works on paper, such as prints, drawing and photography; decorative arts; performance; and design (except industrial).  Architecture and commercial film are excluded.  The full program is made possible by the Terra Foundation for American Art.
Now in its fifth iteration, EPIC has bought together 28 curators from 9 countries. In addition to the Terra-funded American Art focused group, the EPIC program also fostered engagement directly between U.K. and U.S. curators, with support from the Art Fund.  With inclusion from 27 countries, the AAMC Foundation creates and strengthens international relationships between curators by providing a cross-cultural platform.

The current EPIC program includes full funding to participate and the application process is free and presented online.  Curators are matched U.S.-to-International, as well as together as a full cohort for an expanded experience.  A total of six pairs will be awarded in 2021.

Applications close Friday, January 15, 2021 at 12pm ET.  Visit our website to learn more: https://www.artcurators.org/page/EPIC  or contact programs@artcurators.org

ABOUT AAMC FOUNDATION
Founded in 2001, the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) Foundation celebrates the curatorial narrative by supporting and promoting the work of art curators at all stages in their career through opportunities for networking, collaboration, professional development, and career advancement. In the ever-changing, non-profit visual art world, the AAMC Foundation is the voice for all curators—regardless of field, experience level, and institutional type. It ensures that the curatorial perspective on art, museums, and educational issues is actively communicated to the public, media, and museum profession.

ABOUT TERRA FOUNDATION FOR AMERICAN ART
The Terra Foundation for American Art is dedicated to fostering exploration, understanding, and enjoyment of the visual arts of the United States for national and international audiences. Recognizing the importance of experiencing original works of art, the foundation provides opportunities for interaction and study, beginning with the presentation and growth of its own art collection in Chicago. To further cross-cultural dialogue on American art, the foundation supports and collaborates on innovative exhibitions, research, and educational programs. Implicit in such activities is the belief that art has the potential to both distinguish cultures and to unite them.
