AAMC FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 2024 PACC FELLOWS: ADVANCING GLOBAL SUPPORT FOR CURATORS OF COLOR
August 15, 2024, NEW YORK, NY —The AAMC Foundation is excited to announce the 2024 Professional Alliance for Curators of Color (PACC) Fellows. This program, now in its fourth edition, is dedicated to supporting curators of color around the globe, harnesses the AAMC Foundation’s extensive experience and network. The PACC program aims to tackle issues of isolation, racism, inequity, and limited access that curators of color often face.

Michelle Jacques, President, Board of Trustees at AAMC Foundation stated, “I am thrilled that the AAMC Foundation is announcing the new Professional Alliance for Curators of Color cohort. This fellowship program is essential for emerging curators of color, providing them with necessary and innovative professional development that they will continue to use throughout their careers. This unique and exemplary program represents the best of the AAMC Foundation, which continues to be a leading voice in the curatorial community.”

Providing each Fellow with stipends and full travel/accommodation for all elements, the 10-month program has four major components, which are:
  • In-person Intensive Workshop in NYC, November 2024
  • Virtual learning sessions, March 2025
  • In-Person Intensive Workshop in NYC, May 2025
  • One on one Mentor partnership, including a multi-day in-person visit and online meetings, October 2024 through April 2025
  • Attendance and alumni networking at the 2025 Art Curators Conference, May 2025
In-person workshops include closed sessions with a DEAIB coach and professional, a half-day experience at a major NYC museum, and a full day at The Art Show, including panels, a tour, and networking with the wider curatorial community. Virtual sessions will engage community leaders on the topics of working with boards, network building, finance and fundraising, working with donors, and more.

Another component of the program is a partnership with a senior-level curator advisor, that meets with the fellows throughout the year, and whom the fellows also visit in person. This year’s group of advisors includes senior-level curators from the Brooklyn Museum, Madlozi Art & Heritage Africa, Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, Remai Modern, University of Victoria Legacy Art Galleries, Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, Whitney Museum of American Art, Williams College Museum of Art, Women Photographers International, and Independently.

In May 2025, the Fellows will attend the Art Curators Conference, along with their cohort, program alumni, and curators from around the world. The program concludes with a virtual meeting of the cohort, with each Fellow presenting how the program impacted and shaped their goals and development.

ABOUT THE PACC PROGRAM

Now in its fourth year, the PACC program seeks curators who self-identify as people of color and have 3-5 years of experience in curatorial roles (including fellowships but excluding internships) with full-time work in nonprofit visual art organizations within the past 12 months. There is no cost to apply or participate in the program.

Since its inception, the PACC program has seen considerable success. Last year's cohort alone included ten fellows from the United States, the United Kingdom, and India, with specializations in African, Asian, and Indigenous Art (40%); Contemporary and Modern Art (20%); American Art (20%); European Art (10%); and Photography (10%). Fellows came from a variety of organizations, including community-based arts organizations and both collecting and non-collecting institutions.

The program fosters professional development through in-person and virtual training, peer cohort interactions, and mentorship pairings. Each year, up to ten Fellows are selected through a free, competitive application process. Participants receive funding to cover all travel, accommodation, and access to the Art Curators Conference.
