ASSOCIATION OF ART MUSEUM CURATORS FOUNDATION LAUNCHES
PROFESSIONAL ALLIANCE FOR CURATORS OF COLOR

New York, NY, February 17, 2022 - The Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) Foundation announced the second iteration of their Professional Alliance for Curators of Color (PACC).  Implementing feedback from the pilot program, as well as adding in-person connections, the PACC initiative will continue to address issues of isolationism, racism, inequity, and gatekeeping in the curatorial profession.  The community alliance of fourteen individuals will have opportunities to engage with advisors, consultants, and liaisons, as well as with each other and the AAMC Foundation, to gain resources, networks, and access to support, sustain, and advance their careers.

The Alliance members will engage in multi-layered opportunities, including the below highlights.
  • Sessions: Every six weeks in an alternating format, the group will meet with selected guest speakers on topics sought by the Alliance members or in an open forum conversation with AAMC Foundation Executive Director, Judith Pineiro, and returning curatorial advisor, Kelli Morgan, Professor of the Practice & Director of Curatorial Studies, Tufts University.
  • Liaisons: Offering points of contact with senior and notable leaders in the museum community, liaisons will be available for direct and confidential advice and guidance.
  • Coaching: Our partner Arts Consulting Group will present a full session on job searches to the Alliance, and then host one on one consultations.
  • DEAI Consultant: Three dedicated group sessions with Gigi Gilliard of Gigi Gilliard Development, an esteemed consultant that leads in both the corporate and nonprofit sector.
  • Art Curators Conference with private PACC workshop: Having reflected on the value of when and why we gather, each Alliance member will receive travel and accommodation and registration for the Art Curators Conference.  In addition, the day before the full Art Curators Conference launches, the PACC cohort will have a workshop and gathering led by Yejin Lee, Founder, Equity & Justice Practitioner, Jeong Coaching & Consulting LLC.
  • Access: The fellows will receive complimentary access to AAMC Foundation’s full network and to all our professional development activities and website, which includes professional resources, a webinar archive, field-specific forums, and a member directory of 1,500 curators for a full two years.
  • Peer-to-Peer:  In addition to peer-to-peer pairings throughout the program, this year Alliance members will also have an open meeting with PACC alumni.
The application process is on a rolling basis and will only be open while there are spaces available.  There is no cost to apply or to participate in the program.

The PACC initiative is part of the AAMC Foundation’s commitment to advocacy, inclusion, and access and one the organization is dedicated to continuing.  The AAMC Foundation acknowledges that one program will not change the field entirely but seeks through all its efforts to continue to move the field forward towards inclusivity, diversity, and equity.

The Professional Alliance for Curators of Color is made possible with support from the Getty Foundation.
