MICHELLE JACQUES APPOINTED AS NEXT
BOARD PRESIDENT OF ASSOCIATION OF ART MUSEUM CURATORS (AAMC) AND AAMC FOUNDATION
 

Vice Presidents and Trustees-At-Large Named
SEPTEMBER 29, 2022, NEW YORK, NY – The Governance and Nominating Committee of the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) & AAMC Foundation announced today that Michelle Jacques, Head of Exhibitions and Collections/Chief Curator, Remai Modern, and current Vice President, Inclusion and Outreach, AAMC & AAMC Foundation, has been appointed as the next President of the Board of Trustees. Jacques will begin her two-year term on January 1, 2023.
 
“It has been so meaningful to me, both professionally and personally, to be a member AAMC & AAMC Foundation Board,” noted Michelle Jacques, “The potential of the organization has come into full focus for me as we have supported curators, museums, and art organizations so commendably during the social, political and economic challenges over the past few years. It is an honor to be stepping into the role of Board President at this time, and to continue our important work with the AAMC & AAMC Foundation leadership and staff.”
 
Additionally, three Trustees-At-Large  have accepted Board level Executive Committee positions: Tuliza Fleming, Interim Chief Curator of Visual Arts, National Museum of African American History and Culture, to Vice President, Inclusion and Outreach; Lauren Haynes, Director of Curatorial Affairs and Programs, Queens Museum, to Vice President, Fundraising; and Juliet Sorce, Executive Vice President, Resnicow and Associates, to Vice President, Advocacy.  The new VPs will begin their terms at the start of 2023, and will be joined on the Executive Committee by incumbent members, Beth Citron, Artistic Director, Education & Provenance, Terrain.art, and Independent Curator, as Vice President, Finance and Audit; and Elizabeth Morrison, Senior Curator of Manuscripts, J. Paul Getty Museum, Vice President of Governance & Nominating.

The Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) & AAMC Foundation has also appointed two new Trustees-At-Large who will begin their service on January 1, 2023.  Adding to a deeply engaged leadership, the new Board members bring a range of experiences and expertise. The new Trustees-At-Large are:
  • Whitney Donhauser, Director and President, Museum of the City of New York
  • Tanya Odom, Program Director, Equity and Inclusion, Walton Family Foundation
Concluding their service on the Board of Trustees at the end of this year are Marianne Lamonaca, Director, Humanities Edge at Florida International University, Independent Curator and President, Board of Trustees; Peter Schertz, Jack and Mary Ann Frable Curator of Ancient Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Vice President, Advocacy; Tobi Bruce, Director, Exhibitions and Collections & Senior Curator, Art Gallery of Hamilton; and Jane Cohan, Partner, James Cohan Gallery.

"As I come to the end of my term as Board President of the AAMC & AAMC Foundation,  I have reflected on the many challenges our community has faced over the past three years. I am gratified that our organization has been at the forefront of change in our field during this tumultuous time. With our network of members, supporters, and community partners, we have provided opportunities for learning, growth, and healing,” noted Marianne Lamonaca,  Director, Humanities Edge at Florida International University and Independent Curator, “Throughout my term, our incoming Board President, Michelle Jacques, has been a thoughtful and dedicated partner as a member of the Board’s Executive Committee. She brings a firm understanding of the organization and a demonstrated commitment to its goals of curatorial engagement, advocacy, and empowerment.”
