AAMC & AAMC FOUNDATION RELEASES FIVE-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN
Advancing Core Values of Inclusivity and Service; New Plan Strengthens Organization’s Mission, Identity, and Ongoing Resiliency January 26, 2023, New York, NY – The AAMC & AAMC Foundation today released a new five-year working strategic plan, building upon its history, status, and impact as the leading organization and resource dedicated to art curators working in the nonprofit realm, and simultaneously envisioning a future that embraces change in order to advance its own mission, program, and the broader field. Developed throughout 2022 by AAMC & AAMC Foundation’s leadership, team, fellows, and advisors, the plan is designed to reinvigorate the organization’s values and identity, and secure the sustainability of its efforts. With diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging as core values of the organization’s mission, culture, and work, the strategic plan’s focal points will advance AAMC & AAMC Foundation’s ongoing efforts to support nonprofit curators at all stages of their careers and continue to champion curatorial practices that equitably recognize the full breadth of a person’s lived experience, self-identification (gender, ethnic, racial, and ability) and socio-economic background. “AAMC and AAMC Foundation has a proven history as an essential support to curators and arts organizations. With the new strategic plan, we set a clear course, by recognizing past strengths and achievements, and setting goals that will bring an emphasis to who we are and where we are going,” noted Michelle Jacques, Head of Exhibitions and Collections/Chief Curator, Remai Modern; President, Board of Trustees, AAMC and AAMC Foundation (2023 - 2025). By embarking on an in-depth process of self-reflection and review of the state of the field, AAMC & AAMC Foundation has identified the following three areas of focus as critical for its future: SERVICE: Advance the impact and range of the organization’s initiatives that create networks, leadership training, and advancement for nonprofit art curators. IDENTITY: Amplify the organization’s mission and reach through a re-envisioning of its name and institutional identity, along with a reflection on its own structure and capacity. RESILIENCY: Ensure the viability and sustainability of the curatorial profession and the organization itself.
“While the future is unknowable, the AAMC and AAMC Foundation’s strategic plan sets goals that support its core values of diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging. The valuable insights and commitment of the Board, team, and stakeholders demonstrated during the process will lead to favorable outcomes for our organization and the nonprofit art curatorial field in the years ahead,” added Marianne Lamonaca, Director Humanities Edge at Florida Independent University; Independent Curator; Board of Trustees, AAMC and AAMC Foundation (2020 - 2023). The organization will move forward in implementing key steps that will bring its focus areas to fruition. A summary document of the plan, updated mission, and core values that were approved by the Board in December 2022 are available on the organization’s website.
