The AAMC Mentorship Program is a pilot 12-month program that will begin in September, 2012.Approximately 5 mentors and 5 mentees will be
matched based on a variety of criteria ranging from field and discipline-based
interests, administrative skills, and expertise in different institution
models. This will be a competitive program spearheaded by an AAMC trustee task force.
The task force will make efforts to structure pairings in order to provide
mentees with specific feedback and/or access to networks which will benefit
their professional growth. The task force will oversee the selection
process and will provide ongoing support and evaluation to assist both mentors
and mentees throughout the year.The
ultimate goal of this pilot initiative will be to launch an ongoing annual
mentorship program that fosters deeper exchange between participants than the singular
exchanges between junior and senior curators at the AAMC meeting each May, and
that also fosters an ongoing instinct to mentor on the part of AAMC members at
all levels.
