Internships and fellowships serve as pipelines to curatorial careers by offering direct experience and mentorship. With our changing world, and office space and interaction, the ability to bring interns on site is unlikely. Yet there are new opportunities in rethinking traditional models and the “in-building” experience. Join to share and learn about models for long-distance, remote learning.

Dhyandra Lawson, Curatorial Assistant, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)

Alex Mann joined SAAM in 2017 and oversees 25,000 works on paper from all periods of American art. His past appointments include the Chrysler Museum (Norfolk, VA) and RISD Museum (Providence, RI), following graduate study at Yale. His traveling show “Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass: American Artists and the Magic of Murano” opens in 2021.

Caryl McFarlane, The Alliance of HBCU Museums and Galleries

Dr. Caryl McFarlane is a Higher Education Diversity Consultant, strategic planner, and organization and program developer. She currently serves as the Executive Consultant for The Alliance of HBCU Museums and Galleries, helping to develop strategic partnerships and programs between PWIs and HBCUs.

Terence Washington, Program Director, NXTHVN

Terence Washington recently became program director for NXTHVN, a residency and gallery space in New Haven, CT, after three years working in education at the National Gallery of Art in Washington. He completed a master's degree in art history at Williams College in 2017.
