When do nominations open and close?

Nominations for the 2020 Awards will open on October 21, 2019.

The final deadline for nominations is 12pm NOON EST on Monday, December 2, 2019. Please note this deadline is firm.

How can I participate as an AAMC member?

Start thinking, looking, and talking! Encourage your colleagues to make nominations, nominate your own work, and spread the word. Permanent collection exhibitions and installations, especially if they push the boundaries of curatorial practice, should be considered.

Remember, exhibitions need to have taken place in 2019, and publications produced in 2019. International work is accepted if the nominee is eligible for membership, which is open internationally to curators working primarily in the non-profit sector. If you have questions, please review our criteria for membership and contact the AAMC offices.

Can you please describe the nominations process?

AAMC members are encouraged to nominate exhibitions and publications by colleagues, or to self-nominate.Nominated curators do not need to be AAMC members but must be eligible for membership and become a member should they be selected as an Awardee.

Once the forms have been submitted electronically, the nominator will receive information about the additional steps required (i.e. sending out copies of the publication or any additional material required if the application was incomplete). Can I nominate more than one exhibition, catalogue, essay or digital publication?

Yes! In fact, it is encouraged.

When are the Awardees notified?

Those selected for an Award are notified by AAMC & AAMC Foundation directly in early 2020 and will be asked to confirm attendance at the Conference (which is not required, but encouraged), and exact name and title listings for the Awards.

Awardees are confidential until they are announced at our Art Curators Conference during an Awards for Excellence reception on Sunday, May 3, 2020, in Seattle, Washington. Again, attendance at the Conference is not required to receive an Award, but we do hope that Awardees will make every effort to participate. 

How do I choose my operating budget category?

If you are self-nominating and know the annual operating budget of your institution, please feel free to select the appropriate radio button. If you don't know the annual operating budget of your institution, please contact your art organization's finance department to obtain the information.

For nominations outside of your own organization please contact either the curator you are nominating or be in touch with the AAMC office to assist you.
